In 1921, the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma was known as Black Wall Street — one of the most prosperous Black communities in the United States.
Thriving businesses, schools, and institutions demonstrated the power of economic independence and community leadership.
Though the community was devastated during the Tulsa Race Massacre, Greenwood remains a symbol of resilience, wealth building, and the importance of rebuilding economic opportunity.
Montgomery The Spark
On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
Her courageous act sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and ignited the modern Civil Rights Movement.
Under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and countless community organizers, Montgomery became the birthplace of a national movement for equality and justice.

Beginning annually on Black Friday and culminating on December 1, the anniversary of Rosa Parks’ courageous stand, this season transforms the closing of the year into a time of reflection, connection, and collective empowerment.
